Two More Started

Last night I successfully made pasta salad, and made my eyes burn badly cutting an onion. We also realized that despite having a knife set, every single knife is serrated. We do not own a non-serrated, plain-edged knife. Nothing like sawing a large onion apart. Guess what we'll be investing in sometime. The sauce wasn't as flavorful as it was before it got mixed into the pasta and veggies, but it was still decent.

The ultimate goal of the dish was to provide a vegetarian side dish for a potluck lunch at work in honor of a coworker who's going to London for school. She's the one office vegetarian, so there was no meat at the luncheon, and I get to mark off 2 foods I've never had before - Tofu (in a tofu stirfry) and a homemade black bean burger. I couldn't really taste the tofu around the vegetables in the stir-fry, but the burger was pretty good. Not something I'd eat normally or order at a restaurant, (especially since darnit I love my meat), but it was good. And then I promptly ruined what is probably the healthiest meal I've ever had with a big honking slice of cake and a cookie. Um...whoops? Hey, I didn't cut the cake...I just ate it. Very, very happily ate it.
