#47 Done, Minor Updates

I got down and dirty this weekend and finished up #47) Plant new herbs/expand porch garden. Like I mentioned before, I got some plants from my mom-in-law that needed replanting, but I was short a pot. So, on Sunday, I dragged Hubby out to the local garden/hardware store to pick up a few things. We came home with two pots, two bags of potting soil, and a small oregano plant. An hour or so later, I was covered in dirt and I had an updated porch garden. It's nothing fancy, no nice pots or multiple pretty plants in one container. Maybe that'll be how I expand it later. For now though, I'm counting this one as done. Hopefully, these plants will do better next winter than the two they replaced. With this one finished, that brings me up to 30 tasks done! I'm almost 1/3rd of the way done!

As far as small updates, I finished the game I was working on, Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI. I don't want to think about how much time I sunk into it. Several hours a day for a few weeks straight...I probably put in at least 75 hours. But I couldn't stop playing it! It was so much fun...I'll probably do a slightly different run later. For now, I need to pick up another game. I've got four options right now, all four games I am a decent way through and just need to finish. Hopefully I can finish them soon and boost up my list to 11 games done. I don't know how many 75 hour games I can afford at this point!!

I also read a new, very short book - Crab Town. My Dad-in-law left it with Hubby and me after our trip last week. I decided to read it because 1) it was short, only about 60 pages (and that made me question whether I should even add it as a book read) and 2) Christopher Moore, one of my favorite authors, was quoted on the back as a review. Honestly, I liked it...at first. It's post-apocalyptic, and I'm pretty sure I've stated here before that I enjoy that sort of stuff. Carlton Mellick III has some interesting ideas for his apocalypse...and some very, very twisted ones. I got severely turned off the book near the end from some of them; I'll spare you the details. Plus, for a book as short as it is, about 1/6th of it is after the last page, talking about the author, other books, etc. So I went from "well, maybe this can be salvaged, there's still a good portion left" to "What, that's it?" The ending was also very abrupt and left me unsatisfied. I guess it's partially a blessing the book was so short; I didn't have to sink more than an hour or two into it.

Finally, we're still doing well on the cleaning task. Hubby's actually been a huge help, cleaning and vacuuming without me even asking. Combined with eating at the table now versus the living room, the place is staying pretty clean, which is what my goal was for cleaning every weekend (although we've been doing some on Fridays or Mondays when we're gone all weekend). Only two more weeks (I think) and we can count this one done.

  1. Yay for dirt under the fingernails that results in happy plants. I need to buy a hanging basket for my back porch.

I had not heard of Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI until you mentioned it. You made me curious and I found the game trailer. It looks intriguing. I will have to keep my eyes out for it.

I'm sorry the book ended up as a bust. I think short books count (unless you gave a minimum page length in your goal).

My newest goal is to keep the apartment clean (we had to clean it for company). So hopefully I will find as much success in that as you have.

  2. If you're really interested, I wrote a better review here - http://girlsrolling20s.blogspot.com/2011/05/ruining-history-for-fun-and-profit.html :) It was so much more fun than I was expecting. But then, I'm a big fan of related games and learned a lot about the era the game's set in. If you're interested in learning more, try the movie Red Cliff, the full 2-part version. It's about one battle from the period and introduces some of the major players you'll see in the games. The whole era is kind of the Chinese version of the Trojan War. :)
