So...yeah. I might have read the whole Hunger Games trilogy between Monday and Wednesday. One book a day. If we want to get technical, three books in one day, since I read all of them after work, between 6PM and 12AM. Stopping for dinner and a a little time with Hubby, I read three books in around 17 hours, possibly less. Easy reads? Yes. Good reads? Oh yes. Thank you Nesties who wouldn't stop talking about these books until I was convinced to give them a try. Now I just have to find someone to see the movie with me when it comes out.
I'm in love with the Kindle. It's definitely different reading on it, but it's got so many perks. It's lightweight, so I don't have to worry about holding it up to read like some of the bigger books I love. No need to worry about pages getting torn, wet, or damaged, or even losing the page you were on. I love being able to turn it off if something else needs attention, then turn it back on to the exact page I left later. No more flipping through trying to remember what page I was on or leaving it open face down to hold my page, hurting the spine, or looking around for the nearest thing to work as a bookmark. It's flip a switch, put it down, flip switch again and I'm right where I left off. No PAPERCUTS! And because of the ink screen, it doesn't hurt my eyes like a computer or TV screen does after several hours of use. I have no clue what to do with my hands since the Kindle only needs one to hold and operate it. Pet the demanding cat who's settled down on my stomach, take a drink or munch a snack, or just get comfy, whatever, I end up fidgeting and moving around a lot. I'm gonna have to hold myself back and limit my book purchases for it. Can't go too nuts. We still have bills to pay.
Additionally, I've been bringing my lunch every day this week (the egg salad I made on Sunday has been enough to last at least 4 days), so if I bring something tomorrow, I'll be all done with #22. Hubby's going to be housesitting for his parents again next week like he did last year when I started this thing, so I expect I'll make a few leaps forward on things to keep me busy while he's gone. Finally finish up that cookbook I've been saying I'd do since October, take a few games off my games list, write...I have options :P But where to start...
I guess there is something to be said for a dedicated ereader. Dunno, I'm a die-hard paper book person, and I've avoided buying a kindle so far. But I think the most compelling reason for me to avoid it is that I already spend far too much on music and paper books. Imagine the havoc I would wreak on my bills if given instant literary gratification... :-)
ReplyDeleteI don't know. I might crack one day. My technophobe grandmother loves hers. :-D
My co-worker mentioned hunger games and I was thinking about reading them. I'm also trying to decide which eReader to get and am currently leaning heavily towards the Kindle.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to the long weekend. I should be able to finish the rest of the Chronicles of Amber, learn a song or two on my violin, and make progress on my costumes.
I hope next week proves productive for you. :)
