One year down, 50+ more to go. When Hubby and I got married, his grandfather challenged us to meet or beat his current record for marrige longevity. He and his wife were married for over fifty years when she passed away. He knows the exact number of years to the day. I can only hope we'll make it that far and beyond. Tonight, Hubby and I are gonna kick off year 2 with our favorite dinner and a bottle of sparkling apple cider we bought for the wedding but never opened. It's our "wedding cake". It'll probably be horrible, but it's the significance of it.
Knowing we only had one day left, we broke out the panini press/grill and the food dehydrator and got them going. In preparation for Sunday, we got a .75lb ribeye, sliced it up, and marinated it for a day in a teriyaki/Worcestershire sauce mix, and I made the turkey and cream cheese mixture from the Turkey Butlers for a good sandwich. Sunday, we finally broke in both. The results: A toasted sandwich and a small amount of beef jerky, both delicious. With that, we officially finished #45. 31 tasks down, 70 to go.
Anniversary 1's supposed to be the paper one. I...didn't really follow it and got Hubby a pair of very nice, super-poseable, super-accurate action figures (one Predator, one Alien Queen). They're called Revoltechs, and seeing them in action, they're pretty cool. Even the smallest details are moveable if the character can move them, so you can set them up however you like. He outdid me and gave me a Kindle. Better than paper! :D I've yet to delve in and pick up some books, but that's on the schedule. My "Read 50 books" task just got a lot easier.
If you're not interested in a huge rant, feel free to finish the blog here :P
Speaking of that task, I finished up book 1 of Romance of the Three Kingdoms yesterday and started book 2. 700 pages down, 700 to go. I'm enjoying them, but there's one issue I have with them - they're possibly the worst-edited books I've ever seen. I seriously think whoever typed it up just used the spell-checker versus actually reading the books to edit. I also think they had a hard time reading the translation, because there are multiple cases of words that make no sense in context but are similar to words that would - ex: twice I've seen "slam" where "slain" would fit, and one other word that also ended with "in" replaced with an "m". Another frequent one: "hot" replacing "not". Most egregiously (IMO), the names of characters get messed up. I'll admit, there are a TON of characters in these books, and many of them have two or more names. That's easy enough to follow though after you get to know the names, and it's only the biggest characters who get multiple names. But when one paragraph gives one person THREE names and only one of them is actually RIGHT (Right Name, Wrong Last Name/Right First Name, Wrong Last Name/Right Last Name), and another names someone, then switches the first letters of the first and last names mid-paragraph, then goes back to the proper name at the end of the paragraph...it's frustrating, and it leaves me wondering if an editor ever even looked at the book before it went to print.
And yet, and yet, I'm still going to read book two. Luckily Hubby doesn't seems to mind the random rants I break into about horrible typos. But seriously. It's inexcusable how many there are in these books. They're on the second page! There should not be typos on page 2!
/End Rant
Okay, I think my inner writer's done...
Ah yes, the typo rant. Nothing worse than being pulled out of a story by words that shouldn't be there or letters miss arranged.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on one year complete of many, many happy ones to come!
You'll have to let me know how you like your Kindle. I've just started researching the various brands for electronic book reading.
Nice job on completing your task. :)
