Well, I brought a pile of those s'mores cookies into work yesterday. Handed them out individually so everyone got one and left the rest on our "free to good home" table in the kitchen. By the time it hit lunchtime, there were 3 left. Apparently by 4, the last three were gone and someone was nice enough to wash the plate I had brought them on. So, mission accomplished, I left the office with the empty plate. In the hallway waiting for the elevator, I ran into three women from another office I occasionally share the elevator with. One of them asked about the plate, and I explained I had brought cookies. At their request, I gave them a description and the one who originally asked said "Well bring us some!" jokingly.
Well, jokes on them. This morning, I packed a ziplock bag with a few cookies and headed out. I had worked with the same department at my college - it was one woman running it with two or three student helpers. I figured the school they worked for would be a little bigger, so I packed 7 cookies. Should be enough, right? I got to the office, went into their area, and turned the corner into the largest maze of cubicles I've ever seen in real life. Now, I don't know these women's names, I can barely even describe them. Someone asked if she could help me, and I managed to stammer out an awkward explanation through my feelings of "oh my god this is not what I was expecting I did not bring enough for everyone and this probably seems really creepy to her..." The woman was nice though and took them with a smile saying she'd do what she could with them. I headed out figuring that would be that.
Finally in my office, I got into a conversation in the kitchen between two of my coworkers. As we chatted, a third came up and told me there were three people looking for me. What? I didn't have anything scheduled for today, I don't meet with patients, who could be looking for me? I go down to my office and there waiting for me were the three women from the elevator! The woman I gave the cookies to had managed to find them out of apparently 33 other coworkers and they were so appreciative that they, not knowing me either, came looking for me (I can only imagine who they said they were looking for...girl who brought cookies yesterday?) They thanked me, asked for the recipe, we introduced ourselves properly and I got their emails to share it with them. They all responded with gratitude and warm words. I hadn't been expecting them to go so far to thank me, but I really appreciated it. :) It's made my day. Made a few new friends, strengthened minor connections, and most importantly, I made people happy. I may have to take more next time I make something to share.
