Last day of work before Christmas vacation! All my presents are done and wrapped, all my secret santas are done, there's a possibility of a white Christmas, I'm feeling good about this year.
For Day Zero, I've been busy.
#21: I decided for my Sister-in-law's mother, who will be joining us for Christmas this year, I would make a tin of homemade treats. I've never done more than peppermint bark annually, and I didn't want to give her a tin of just that. So, last night, I pulled up this recipe from my friend's blog. She'd raved about them, they looked and sounded delicious. So far the verdict is in
Hubby: F*cking amazing!
Coworker: I need the recipe and be glad you're married, otherwise we'd be going somewhere that we could get a gay marriage so you can make me more of these forever.
I think these are getting made again soon. The fun part was that I had to completely improvise half of the things we needed to make them. We don't have a food processor or rolling pin to crush up the oreos. All we had is a blender that is not meant to crush up oreos in anything other than milkshakes. So, improvise. We had plastic baggies and a nearly empty bottle of Oronoco rum. Pop the oreos in a bag, pop that bag upside down in another bag, use the rum like a rolling pin. Hey, it worked! Then we had to improvise a double boiler with two pots to melt the chocolate, and don't even ask how I coated the things. They weren't pretty. But man, they were good.
#32/33: I've started reading How NOT To Write A Novel: 200 classic mistakes and how to avoid them - a misstep by misstep guide by Howard Mittelmark and Sandra Newman. It was part of my last secret santa gift I received last night, and I gotta say, it couldn't have been more perfectly picked at a better time. :) I think the writers had a lot of fun writing out the examples of what not to do.
edit: Finished after work :) This really is a great book for anyone interested in noveling as a profession.
#96: Last week, I got in the photo pages I needed, and when we visited my mother for Christmas and her birthday this past weekend, we organized the photos and slipped them all in. I now have a completed wedding photo album!
At the rate I'm going, I'm going to have 20 tasks done within the first 6 months. I'm pretty well on schedule, I think.
