Book #17
I forgot to mention this in my last update, which is fine, because honestly, I think this is cool enough to warrent its own post. I added my 17th book last Thursday - The Chronicles of Shadovan, Book 1: Make a Wish by Cat Sass. Never heard of it? Not surprising. It's not published yet! Cat is an awesome friend I met during NaNoWriMo (and yes, that's her real name), and I loved hearing updates on how her epic adventure story was going. She finally finished it at 100k+ words, and I said I couldn't wait to read it. Somehow, between November 30th and January 2nd, I was given the honor of being the co-editor for the completed first draft. I corrected and made notes as I read, chatting over IM with Cat with Word open, and after a month of reading and editting, I sent her the last set of chapters. She's got another set of editting to go with a group reading it before she sends out query letters. No matter what happens, though, if we're the only ones who ever get to see it or if it hits the shelves, I will always be the first person to have read this book. And I don't think anything will be much cooler than that. I'm literally the Number One fan of something. And to be quite honest, with some of the stuff that's being pushed as good reading these days, I'll be amazed if no one would pick it up - it's a damn good book with a solid story and characters. I sincerely hope to see it on the shelves some day.
