#64 Done, Reluctantly

I. Hate. Needles. I don't have my ears pierced, I've never gotten a tattoo, and to get a shot, I need to psych myself up for at least a day. I can't even watch someone get a shot in a movie or on TV. Part of this list's purpose is to conquer my fears, so I put as #64 "Get a flu shot". My Father-in-law is a doctor and get flu shots for his family every year, and every year, I've turned them down. When we went to visit them for their birthdays this weekend, I found out when we got there that the shots were there too. It took the whole weekend to come to terms with it, and Sunday, as we were preparing to leave, I asked about them. Dad-in-law pulled them out and I started shaking a bit even with my psyching up. Hubby got his first and got a dull needle that actually had to be forced in. Urgh. Thank GOD he got that one, as the other two were still sharp and I would probably never get a shot again if I'd gotten it instead. Mom-in-law got hers, and then it was my turn.

I will not say I didn't whimper and shy away, cause I definitely did. Dad-in-law let me look at the shot and needle so that I could understand a bit more about how it worked, then had me sit down on a barstool to give me the shot. I feel like such a baby freaking out like I did in front of my in-laws, but I've been traumatized by needles ever since middle school. We got public shots for 7th grade, I was behind a girl I knew, and she screamed. Bloody murder screaming. Luckily, Dad-in-law understood, and he was quick and gentle. I've realized that less than the shot itself, I hate the pain that comes after. It's been nearly a day and my arm's still sore in the muscle that got the shot. But I did it, and I don't even feel sick today. Hopefully I don't actually get the flu this year, because I swear, if I do after doing this, I'm not wasting my time on a flu shot again.

Three more steps closer to finishing my books. I read The Bromeliad Trilogy by Terry Pratchett: Truckers, Diggers, and Wings. It was a VERY easy read and I finished all three books in one day, but it was around 500 pages so I think it's fair to list it as three books although they were bound in one. I'm hoping I can dig through a few more books, leaving Terry Pratchett's newest, Snuff, due out in two weeks, for #50.
