Well, it looks like starting on Monday, I'm going to camp. Camp NaNo that is! Yeah, the people who run NaNoWriMo rolled out a summer one this year called Camp NaNoWriMo. It's the same deal, but camp-themed. I thought I'd missed it because it rolled out in July, but recently discovered that it goes on through August as well! Ok, I wanted to wait until November anyway, this can skip on by. I forgot about it. Until yesterday.
Yesterday I decided to start a thread on my forum seeing how many other aspiring writers posted there, and many regular posters I've come to know began to talk about their stories, their work, their concerns and dreams. And we talked about NaNo. Most of us had heard of it, done it, or tried it. Many just couldn't do it because November was too busy. And then Camp came knocking. I brought it up. They got excited. And I got excited from their excitement, and I knew that deep down, as much as I loved my trilogy, there was no better way to get started than to dive in with a NaNo, because NaNo wouldn't let me stop. And there's no better NaNo than one done with friends. My friend A was already planning on doing it as well. So now, many of us from that thread are going to camp next month. Hopefully we'll come out the end with 50k words.
The hard part here is that for the first two days, I'm going to be out of town. But at least I have the whole rest of the first week to catch up thanks to my vacation. I also want to try to work on a few of my Day Zero projects. I've read two more books lately (The Wee Free Men and A Hatful of Sky by Terry Pratchett) and have two more in my Kindle. I need to finish my recipe book (#28) and cook a few new dishes(#21 and 24). I want to go through Hubby's clothes and get rid of the holey and damaged or doesn't fit (86). Maybe I'll listen to my ipod for a day while I'm writing (#99). If I don't forget, I'll take some books to donate to that bookstore in Charlotte that's going towards a new library and I'll leave a little note in one of them for whoever buys it next (81 and 88). I can't wait for my next post to see how much I can progress this list with one staycation.
I'm going to Camp too! Luck to us all; keeping our sanity will be difficult, I imagine...
